I have always found fascinating the way in which the mass media, and particularly advertising, is to able to forestall our needs in order to control them. In 1996 I did a public art project in Edmonton, Alberta, where I placed 6 billboards around the city. I chose six simple sentences that reflected moods rarely seen in advertising: fear, loneliness, anxiety...and which could work as anti-ads or black holes in the midst of the image bombardment.
The texts were:
I am alone; I am empty; I am frightened
I can't breath; I can't feel; I can't stop
